I am interested in what happens when the line between history and memory becomes blurred, and when archival material meets the personal.

About the Artist

Portrait of artist Joey Gonnella.

Joey Gonnella (b. 1997) is a New York-based artist whose paintings and works on paper explore his relationship to the history of images. Culled from his large archive of found images and art historical references, Joey uses this pictorial archive as the foundation and departure point for his paintings and drawings. Joey’s work represents a sensitive meeting point of contemporaneity and history, creating distant yet possible connections between the past and present.
