Through a tactile and layered paint surface, Susan Simonini creates abstract compositions that reference the agricultural landscape while questioning themes of place and belonging.
About the Artist
Susan Simonini (b. 1968) is a multi-disciplinary artist based in rural Tasmania, Australia. Her practice explores themes of place and belonging, and her layered abstract paintings offer tactile impressions of the gridded agricultural landscape and geometric forms that appear in her surrounding environment. Susan’s work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Gold Coast City Art Gallery, The Mater Hospital, and the Etsy Art Collection. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Border Art Prize and the Gold Coast Art and Design Awards, and has been a finalist in the prestigious Glover Prize and the Churchie Emerging Art Prize. Susan holds a BFA from Griffith University.
