Adam on 'Architectonic'
Adam Ryder takes us behind the scenes of his 'Architectonic' series, which draws inspiration from mid-20th century architecture and the color palettes of psychedelic cinema.
I am increasingly interested in making objects, rather than images alone and am drawn to forms which evoke Minimalist sculpture, Brutalist architecture and modernist monuments. While never an architect, or a student of architecture, I have held a fascination with the built environment for some years. As a city-dweller, the largely rectilinear forms that dominate my surroundings are are often foremost in my mind when brainstorming and creating.

These images were made partially on film and partially by digital means - they are captures of temporary sculptures made from styrofoam, both harvested from deliveries and purchased for the purpose of this project. The color schemes for these images are inspired by psychedelic cinema and mid-century product advertisements and have been overlaid digitally.
