Visit with Jackie Meier
Jackie Meier’s paintings capture a simultaneous flattening and expansion of form with rhythmic undulations of geometric shapes that spiral across her canvas. In her new works, Jackie experiments with doubling and tripling her geometric imagery, pushing against the innate rigidity of these forms to create an interplay between expected and interrupted patterns.
I am hitting my stride with the larger pieces by doubling and tripling the imagery. The central images' shapes push against the grid and form a loose pattern. The work begins to feel balanced in a way I like. I let the canvas show through and use it as a major component of the composition.
