Joe Geis invites us into his Brooklyn studio to learn how he approaches each painting like a collage, focusing on balance of forms and negative space. Tour his space and discover his latest series of paintings.
My process normally has the same three steps – I create all of the elements within a piece first, think about composition second, and then color third. With balance and negative space as my main intentions, I start to lay those elements out as if it were a collage. Once I get comfortable with the feeling of the composition, I start to work with color to get to the emotions I am trying to elicit.
