Britt Bass
Britt Bass sits down with us to chat about her work, inspiration, and the value of having multiple projects going on at the same time.
Where are you from and where do you reside?
I am from Atlanta and I live and work in Atlanta! Georgia girl.
Color plays a large role in your artwork; where do you find inspiration for your color palette?
Everywhere! I find it in a stack of books, a fashion post or photograph from Instagram, from the city or landscape on my walks, etc. I am constantly taking note of visual information around me and putting in my mind pocket for later.
How important is spontaneity in your art?
My work is all about intuition and reacting to the previous stroke and color choice. Each new artwork is a fun new challenge and exciting potential for me.
How has your upbringing influenced your work and career?
I grew up in a creative home, my mom is an interior designer. I was always encouraged to be whatever I wanted and explore my creativity. I was really confident in pursuing a career as an artist, I think that has something to do with my upbringing since I realize now most people don’t come across that so naturally without fear.
My work is all about intuition and reacting to the previous stroke and color choice. Each new artwork is a fun new challenge and exciting potential for me.

What necessities do you require when making art (radio, specific paintbrushes)?
Spotify for sure, I need my studio and painting area to be clean, brushes clean with fresh water, lots of open space and lots of blank canvases available in case I hit a groove and decide to stay late into the night.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
My grandmother is from Japan. I feel a mysterious connection with this part of my heritage and really hope to travel some day soon and learn more about painting and art making practices there.
