Monochrome minimalism in Dumbo
This Brooklyn loft is transformed into a minimalist retreat with the help of our friends at Danielle Colding Design. Principal designer Danielle embraced the open floor plan of this growing family's apartment by contrasting the monochrome color palette with impactful works rich in texture by Dan Covert, Carrie Crawford, Lydia Bassis, and Blake Aaseby. The goal for this project was simple, clean, and edited design, so that the view - the true magic of the space - could shine. The pared-down color palette, dominated by natural wood tones and shades of white, gray and black, called for impactful art that was harmonious and layered. To achieve this more subtle aesthetic, I looked for texture-rich art in calming colors to add both scale and substance to the home.

I knew I wanted an impactful, perfectly scaled piece of art over this custom-designed asymmetrical desk. The pops of indigo and shades of blue bring strong color to the area while connecting to the deep blue leather of the desk chair.

I absolutely love the diptych above the bed. The silvery, pale blue color and complex texture and pattern of the piece serve as the perfect compliment to this very zen bedroom space.
