Visit with Anastasia Greer
Anastasia Greer shows us around her studio ahead of her inclusion in Tone Shift, a group exhibition at Uprise Art.
In these new works, Anastasia sews together pieces of raw and dyed silk, contrasting the organic quality of the dispersed pigment with defined stitched borders, mimicking the order and chaos of daily life.
In this series, I explore the relationship between color, texture, and shape through dyed and sewn raw silk. Each piece is a meditation on the organic interaction of dye with the natural fibers of silk, resulting in fluid patterns that show spontaneity while the dye settles and spreads in unexpected ways.

The interaction between the dye and natural silk fibers results in fluid patterns that embody spontaneity as the dye settles and disperses in unexpected ways. The sewn elements introduce a contrasting dimension, merging the silk's softness with the structured lines of the stitching, the interplay fostering a visual dialogue that offers moments of introspection, contentment, curiosity, and wonder.
The sewn shapes introduce a contrasting element, combining the softness of the silk with the rigid, deliberate lines of sewing. This interplay creates a visual dialogue between disorder and structure, mirroring the complexities of the inherent energy and chaos of my personal life. Through this work, I aim to capture moments of introspection and contentment, curiosity, and wonder, offering a visual retreat from the stress of the outside world.
