Artist Paola Rodriguez Arias leaning over a table in her studio cutting yarn and gluing it onto a panel.

Paola Rodriguez Arias invites us inside her Geneva studio and walks us through her intricate process for crafting her yarn-based works.

Paola creates her work through a meticulous process of coiling yarn onto panels to create symbolic compositions that incorporate references to found objects, figures and the natural landscape. Though the meditative act of constructing her compositions, Paola’s work is inherently contemplative, allowing her to imbue the work with votive-like meaning.

"I learned how to knit when I was younger so yarn has always been a material I’m familiar with. I love how pliable and soft it is and I’ve always associated it with both physical and emotional warmth."

"I love sketching as it allows me to visualize ideas very quickly. The difficult part is transforming these ideas into reality, especially since the yarn and embroidery pieces require a lot of time and patience to make."
